Black tie Boogie, my day

It´s Black tie Boogie time for me, oh yeah

Thanks lovely Madame Samm and Vickie for this lovely blog hop, it has been so fun to wake up every morning with all these fantastic coop of chickens.

I have always loved birds and yes chickens, roasters and hens are all birds. When I became a quilter 12 years ago I started to collect fabric with chickens, roasters and hens. They were designed in several ways, some more fancy and the others.


But first of all I will introduce to you my lovely wooden roaster. You maybe remember my Dalecarlian horses handmade of wood and hand painted in the county Dalarna.
The crafts men in Dalarna are also making roasters in same way as the horses.

Don´t you think that he is a proud and handsome roaster?

Now over to my project. When I was destashing to make better place in my cupboard, I also sorted among my chicken fabric and found a lovely black piece of fabric with tossed roasters and hens over the surface. And I think it was among the first fabric that I have bought as a quilter.
It was not a large piece of fabric, a scarcely half yard and I had to fussy cut the birds. But I could cut out four handsome roasters, three lovely hens, some heads of the birds, all in different sizes. The rest of the fabric became  chicken soup!!! LOL

I have also decided to make a table runner and it became rather large 24x64 ", but  it will be perfect on my dining table.
I was inspired by a free pattern from Dreamweavers quilts, here and worked it out in my way.

Don´t you think it is funny with the heads peaking over here and there close to  the binding of the runner?

I have had such a fun time making this runner and have also enjoyed the machine quilting.

Min egen syväska / My very own sewing purse

Nu har jag sytt den tredje syväskan efter det mönster som jag gjorde till Butiken Annalundas syevent för snart en månad sedan. Denna gång har jag anpassat mönstret till tyget, som bestod av kvadrater med de sötaste motiv jag sett på länge. Väskan är lite större än originalet, men med lite matematik, var det lätt att ändra. Tyget är helt nytt, jättebra kraftig kvalitet och heter Hello Tokyo.
Tyget har jag köpt på Etsy, butiken där jag kompletterade mina Tula Pink tyger, hade detta också, och jag kände att jag måste ha några bitar av detta.
Denna väska ska jag behålla, de två föregående skall jag ge bort. Man får anamma barnet i sig, för visst skulle det lika bra passa en liten flicka.

My third sewing purse is now completed and this will be mine to keep and use of course. The two before have been gifts. I fell in love with the fabric Hello Tokyo, which I have found  on Etsy when I bought some more fabric to my Tula Pink Sampler. Don´t´you think it is a wonderful fabric and the purse came out so cute.

Ha en trevlig helg. Jag skall ut i dag efter en sträng förkylning som hållit mig inomhus i två veckor och i morgon är det träff med Öresundsquiltarna.

Min tuffa korp / My cheeky raven

Jag blev så förtjust när jag såg Regina Grewes mönster på en korp, en tysk variant med gul näbb.
De svenska korparna har svarta näbbar, men min korp har fått gul näbb.
Här  kan ni se Reginas mönster till korpen och den är sydd i PP, inte så väldigt många delar, annars är jag inte så förtjust i PP.

I stumbled over Regina Grewe´s PP pattern to her cheeky raven and was so inspired that I had to order the pattern. The ravens in Sweden don´t have yellow beaks, so this funny bird belongs in  the fairy tales. If you want to make a raven you could buy the pattern here.

Jag har kviltat hans fjädrar med metallic tråd för att få fjäderskruden att glänsa. Jag ändrade lite i mönstret, lade till några dansande löv, som jag applicerade dit med raksöm och stoppfoten.
Den var väldigt kul att sy, så jag kan faktiskt tänka mig att sy någon mer.

I have quilted his feathers with metallic thread to get his feathers to shimmer. The leaves which are dancing in the wind are appliquéd with FMQ. I am so happy over this little fellow, that I will maybe sew one more later.

Nu är november månads block klara. Och dessutom har jag klätt två pärmar med tyg, där jag skall förvara blocken tills jag har sytt alla hundra. Det är helt vanliga kontorspärmar som jag klätt med tyg, där jag har en av mina favoriter Betty Boop. Beskrivningen kommer från Viveka.

Ten blocks chosen for November are now done. And I have also covered two binders with fabric to stock the blocks  and not with any fabric. It is fabric with Betty Boop, one of my favorites.

Färgerna är långt ifrån rättvisande, men det är inte lätt att ta bra bilder i det grå november.

Blocken är verkligen roliga och dessutom lätta att sy. Det blir säkert fler sydda under de närmaste dagarna, främst blir det decemberblocken, som vi redan nu fått besked om vilka de är.

Av små, små rester / From tiny scraps

Nu har jag också varit ekorre några dagar och sytt av små färgglada rester. Min väninna Ingrid har talat varmt om kassakvittosömnad och jag har sett en del på nätet också. Var väl inte så väldigt begeistrad, men så vill jag alltid testa innan jag vill lägga det helt åt sidan. Jag ville däremot inte sy på papper, för då måste pappret bort, utan jag valde att sy på tunt vliseline, där jag lade tygbitarna på den sidan med lim. Ett annat bra alternativ är att sy på remsor av s.k. riveflis, som man maskinbroderar på.

I have made a project where I have used tiny bright scraps, that I could´t throw a way, as I liked the color and the patterns. My friend Ingrid has told me how fun it is to sew on paper for cash receipts , but I have hesitated a long time. It was now time for me to test, but I didm´t use paper, I took very thin interfacing in the meaning to avoid tearing of the paper. 

Jag skar remsor av vliselinet, 2 1/2 inches breda och sedan sydde jag på små tygrester, skar av det som kom utanför sidorna på remsan. På varje sida av remsan sydde jag på remsor av vitt tyg.
Skar sedan till kvadratiska bitar och sydde ihop. Resultatet blev inte så dumt eller hur?

I have cut strips of the interfacing 2 1/2 inches wide, sewn on tiny scraps, like the PP method, than
cut off the abundance so the strips were  2 1/2 inches wide again. I then cut strips in white fabric, this time 2 inches wide and sew them to each side of my bright strips. Finally I squared them up
and here is the result.

Jag har frihandskviltat med flerfärgad tråd i restbitarna och med vit tråd i bakgrundstyget.

The tablecloth is FMQ with multicolored thread in the scraps and with white thread in the background.

Det var kul att prova, men inte syns det att jag har tagit några små rester. Av det vita tyget gick det åt ca 40 cm om ni skulle vilja prova. Och jag kanske syr mera någon annan dag av mina små rester som jag samlar i en liten låda. De andra lite större resterna finns i två större lådor, men det är en helt annan historia, vad jag skall göra med dem.

It was so fun to test making something of the tiny scraps and left over from fabric that I have sherished. But there are more more left in the small box with tiny scraps, and perhaps there will be more sewn from them some other day in the future
I have two bigger boxes with bigger scraps, but what to do with them is another project to think of. 

Bloggers Quilt Festival

Jag har beslutat mig för att deltaga i Bloggers Quilt Festival med mitt Flygande gäss täcke. Jag är väldigt nöjd med hur det blev och kommer att deltaga i klassen Throw.

Mitt täcke har jag sytt av mina handfärgade tyger och av enfärgat vitt bomullstyg, dekorerat med cerise linnetyg. Men det var inte lätt att kombinera linnetyget med bomullstyget, det gick, men fordrade lite tålamod.

I have decided to participate with my Flying Geese Quilt from Fat Quarterly´s book 

The geese are sewn from my hand dyed fabrics, which I dyed last summer. The fabric has rested a year in my stash until I decided this summer to use them in the quilt from Fat Quarterly. To get the fabric to gleam I have decided to combine them with solid white and  pink linen.

But I must admit, it was not an easy task to work with the linen fabric.

Sedan var det där, med kviltningen, det skulle bli ett relativt stort täcke, och jag hade bestämt mig för att frihandskvilta det. Jag har gått på kurs hos Leah Day och Angela Walters på Craftsy och nu skulle jag 

tillämpa mina kunskaper på ett stort täcke. 

I had decided to quilt the top with FMQ on my home sewing machine, not an easy task for me, as it is the first quilt I have quilted without quilt as you go. But I had a great help from the classes for Leah Day and Angela Walters on Craftsy. I had to go for it.

I think that I got the effect that I wanted and the geese are like little gems.

Syväska i vintage tyger / Sewing purse in Swedish vintage fabric

Jag har varit flitig i mitt syrum på sistone och städat och sorterat . Så mycket som man samlat på sig under någon tid. Men nu är det mesta sorterat och klart .
Resten skall jag ta itu med, när jag tillfrisknat från min förkylning, som jag drog på mig i helgen.
I går sydde jag i alla fall ytterligare en syväska, lite större den här gången, eftersom jag som fickor ville ha stjärnblock. Mönstret till blocket har jag tagit från den beskrivning som jag gjorde tillsammans med Karin till boken Jubileumskvilten.

De blommiga tygerna är s.k vintagetyger från borås Vävferi, designade av Lena Boije och  inhandlade på Tradera,  som jag sedan har kompletterat med rutiga tyger från Stoff och Stil. Väskan skall till USA, till en kviltväninna som verkligen behöver uppmuntras.

I have been busy sorting in my sewing room, which soon is tidy enough for me. But as I have caught a cold in the weekend, I will continue as I am feeling better. 

 But I wasn´t that sick that I couldn´t  start and finalize a small sewing purse with blooming vintage fabric from Sweden, which I have bought on Swedish Ebay, and completed with gingham fabric. 

I am very satisfied with this sewing purse, it is sew sweet and I hope that the lady over there, who is the receiver, will use it often when she is sewing.
