Dare to Dresden First day

I have indeed been very busy sewing the last three weeks. First the projects for the bloghop In your Words and now Dare to Dresden. I was so excited over these two last bloghops that I had to participate in both of them. And  how  fun it has been to make something with the Dresden templates, that I have bought  several years ago but  I have never never used before.

Thank you lovely Madame Samm and Christine for conducting the ladies to dare  Dresden.

My  first plan was   to make only one project with Dresden, but  the first  plan  with only one project was soon thrown away.

The first project is a small tray sewn in fabric designed by Kaffe Fasset, one of my favorite designers.
The tricky moment  with this small tray was to make the back, as I don´t have a plate  which is big enough to use as template , no pizza plates in this house and no compass with a leg long enough to make a circle template for this tray. But I have  solved the problem  with  making a circle template from freezer paper just by feeling with the pen where I should draw the circle line to make the template.

And I think it turned out very cute with this wonderful fabric.

Then over to the new plan making one more Dresden project. I have had some fabric in my stash since several years ago with pattern from 1930-1940. I have used some of the fabric last year sewing a quilt with Grandmother´s squares, but there were lot of leftover fabric, in sizes bigger than scraps. I then decided to make an old- fashioned table cloth with muslin as back ground fabric. There were  several tiny bits to cut out, I have used pieces measuring 5 inch for the petals and a bowl for the middle as template.

I have then quilted with embroidery stitches from my sewing machine and I think it turned out very charming and very old-fashioned.

I had now two projects, I had in my mind to stop there,  but then I got another idea where I could play even more and I had to try this one too.

The start was to dig out white and black fabric from my stash  to make a background for some Dresden in bold and bright colors.

I could see the the table runner in my head, making  Dresden flowers with zigzag ribbons as stems and with appliquéd leaves and birdies to make something funny and crazy.

But the time schedule was short, as I started three days ago with the table runner and the table cloth wasn´t quilted by then.
I worked very intensely since Sunday  with the table runner, quilted it on Monday and quilted the table cloth on Tuesday. I was very happy to go out in the winter weather to take some pictures this morning of my projects.

And best of all,  I could buy all the fabric  from my self in my sewing room. And I love to stretch my creativity , that´s why I love these blog hops with at theme.

Don´t you think my table runner  turned out very fun? It will be a  very bright and happy  table runner for my old oak table.

And as you could see I  had time  to take  pictures in the morning  light out in the snow.
Yes, I dare Dresden and I will make more of them. A wonderful way to use scraps and very funny to play with  the Dresden shapes.

Don´t forget to visit all the other ladies who don´t are afraid to play with Dresden and be inspired of all the creativity vibrating in the blogs.

Thank you very much for visiting me and continue to  have fun with the brave women who dare to play with Dresden.

In Your Words

In Your Words My Day

First of all I want to thank two lovely ladies Madame Samm and Linda who are  our cheer leaders for  this amazing blog hop.

I must admit that I first regretted,  that I without thinking it over, jumped right into  this blog hop.

But I started to sketch a project to have the words that I liked much and which ment a lot for me.

Then suddenly one day the new fabric designed by Laurel Burch arrived from US. I have ordered the fabric in August 2012 and have forgotten the design of them. But as the design from Laurel Burch is one of my favorites I knew that I shouldn´t be disappointed.

And there they were my favorite words or words suitable to me as I think I am  a very positive and open minded person.

I especially love these words , which are printed on the fabric
Remember to dream, to laugh and to sing
Pretend that you have wings and use them
Love and friendship
Live to celebrate life
And most of all Plant your self in the garden of your heart

As I love purses and also enjoy making them of fabric, the first project was clear. Why not make a wonderful purse with the words you love and carry it with you, when you are out.

And here it is, my purse in my own design  made of Laurel Burch wonderful fabric and with a body of faux purple  suede.

Waiting for spring

The top of the purse is sewn in a kind of wonky log cabin and as quilt as you go.
Live to celebrate life

The back of my purse

And when I open my purse I will see this words

I had to  make something more of the beautiful fabric and why not a golden table runner for my old oak table.

When I made the table runner I have sewed the block as a kind of wonky log cabin with a fussy cut centerpiece with cats. I am not a cat person, I love birds, but I am very fond of Laurel Burch´s cats.
Here is the full table runner on my floor, the best way to take a picture for me. I have prefered to be outside, but it was too windy to take pictures.

I have now showed you my words that are important for me.  The other ladies who are telling you sweet and lovely words are:

Hill Valley Quilter thats me Britt-Inger from Sweden
Buzzing and Bumbling Our Cheer Leader
Englating Marica from Sweden Yeah!!!

Have a lovely Tuesday

Känns som vår / Feeling of Spring

I was out biking today and it was just like spring. But of course there are no spring flowers outdoors, instead I will show you some wonderful stalks of Amaryllis. Normal time for the flowering of Amaryllis is Spring outdoors in South Africa, where the plants originate from  but in Sweden we have the flowers indoors in Christmas and early Spring. The Christmas Amaryllis are mostly red or white. I think this light pink is adorable and reminds me of Spring.

In Your Words bloghop a sneak peek

Next blog hop will start on Monday  7th of January and the participants will be listed every day on Madame Samms blog Sew We Quilt. My day will be the 15th of January, but I will tease you with some sneak peeks of my  two different projects with the same theme.
Quilting is done, but there is much more to be done

Gott Nytt År/ Happy New Year / Hemligheter/ Secrets

I wish you a Happy New Year and many finished quilty projects next year. You know it is so fun to start and sometimes very hard to get them finished and quilted.
I have started with some new projects and patterns for our Swedish Quilt Guild and I am only showing two  sneak peaks from one of the projects. I have used fabric from my stash, this time most of them were scraps, a good way to make new fabric.
I have also started the project for the next blog hop from Madame Samm In your words which I will present 15th of January. And it is sew fun and I think there will be at least two different things I will sew. Some days ago there is a new blog hop sewing Dresden and I am of course in there too. I have made some Dresden before and it is sew fun and the blocks turned out sew beautiful, last time I tried.

GOD JUL / MERRY CHRISTMAS

GOD JUL
Merry Christmas!
I am waiting for the Christmas rice pudding, I always start Christmas Eve with this.
It was snowing yesterday but today the snow is nearly gone and with warmer weather and rain, I think there will be no snow here in the afternoon.
I have some picture of my Santas and some other old fashioned Christmas ornaments and traditional Christmas flowers.
Enjoy the holiday!!
