Dockan Greta / Greta the doll

Får jag presentera Greta som jag sydde i går och idag. Mönstret har jag köpt på internet hos
 RetroMama. Dockan var kul att sy, lite pillig, fick fixa lite, eftersom min maskin nafsade bort en hörna, när jag sydde. Nu skall jag sy kläder till henne, fast hon egentligen redan har kläder på. Dockan skall jag behålla själv, men om man syr till små barn, får man sy filtknappar i stället de bling bling knappar som jag sytt. Jag tror att hon skall få en kompis Britta lite senare. Tygerna som jag använt är Kaffe tyger naturligtvis.
May I introduce you to Greta, a doll I have finished today from starting yesterday. The pattern is from 
RetroMama. Greta was fun to sew, even if I had some problems with my sewing machine, that ate a corner of the doll. I had to solve the problem with adding a heart in felt in the corner of her dress.
I have embellished the doll with some buttons of glass as this will be only mine and not a gift to a child.
I will now sew a dress for her and a cape, because it is fun and later I will sew her a friend, Britta.
Don´t you think she is a cutie. The fabric is from my favorite Kaffe Fasset.

Harrys täcke Harry´s quilt

I går var jag hemma hos mina föräldrar och då passade jag på att fotografera täcket som jag sytt till min systers nya barnbarn Harry. Jag sydde det efter ett mönster i Rikstäcket nr 93, som kom i våras. Då hade jag sytt mönstertäcket i vitt bakgrundstyg och med charms, men nu ville jag använda upp de barntyger som jag samlat under några års tid. Sedan ville jag ha färgerna att lysa och valde svart bakgrundstyg. Jag har kviltat täcket med raka linjer och runt om stjärnorna. Sedan har jag använt mönstersömmar i bårderna.
Jag använde också rester till bakstycket, köpte bara lite blått enfärgat tyg på Stoff och Stil. Kvilttråden på framsidan är en rayontråd som skiftar från grått till svart och baksidan har en flerfärgad tråd.
Min maskin är nyservad och den syr som en dröm.
I took yesterday a daytrip to my parents. I took some nice pictures in my parents garden  of the quilt that I have made for my sister´s newly born grandchild, a boy named Harry. I had some children fabrics in my stash that I wanted to use. I only had to buy some solid blue fabric for some pieces on the back side of the quilt.
I used a pattern that I have made before in white and with a charmpack, but this time I wanted to use up as much as possible of my scraps and from my stash. As children love colors, the fabric is very colorful and that is why I have chosen solid black as background. I have also made a pieced backing full of color.

My Wicked day

It´s my  wicked day and time for the witch  to fly

We don´t have Halloween in Sweden, the commercial interests couldn´t get  the Swedes to be influenced to feast Halloween. You could see some pumpkins for sale in the shops, but not so much more. No spiders, no skeletons and no ghosts and not even one witch.

At first I  hadn´t any idea what to sew, and I  started to blame myself being so hasty to hop in something that I  couldn´t maybe  manage to get something out of it. 

But as I love challenges, I thought  there must be some solutions to my problems and I must find some idea of what to create.

I started to google in order  to find some Halloween posters to get inspirations to create my wicked projects.

And what I found were Halloween witches that seemed to be   some kindreds and look alike to our Påskkäringar,  Easter bitches. 

Påskkärring is very much part of the old Easter traditions even into Christian times and some traditions are still practiced.

Påskkärring is a witch with a hideous face and a large nose, dressed in head cloth and a wide robe, flying through the air on a broomstick. The stick should be used with the broom in front (often wrongly depicted). With her on the broomstick is a black cat (always a symbol of bad luck and sometimes a transformation of the devil) and a coffee-pot (coffee grains were used to predict the future or cast evil spells).

All påskkärringar (plural form) gather on the hill Blåkulla for a "congress" during the  Easter where they meet with the devil. The major travelling days are Wednesday and Maundy Thursday. Many claims have been made as to where in Sweden this Blåkulla is located. A recent claim is on Blå Jungfrun, a small island i between the Öland island and the mainland.

I then got the fantastic idea to transform a Swedish påskkärring to an American Halloween witch with a Swedish touch.

I started to sketch and draw my witch and I have had so fun making my wicked lady with the necessary attributes, but I found it difficult to  give her a large nose and  grim face, my witch is maybe to pretty but I think she is cool.

I started with a grey background fabric  of 12,5 inches square,

My  witch is enjoying her journey through the blowing  winds lazy  resting on the broomstick,  as it was a flying carpet with her head on  a big fat cat as her pillow. Her companions are a black raven sitting on her knee and a big spider on her breast. And don´t you love her sexy  stockings and her boots.

 The landscape is Swedish with a church tower embellished with a golden cock, here is the Swedish touch to the Halloween.

Wonky Stars

Häromdagen sydde jag klart kvilttoppen med skeva stjärnor. Och i går började jag med att sy baksidan, som också kommer att bestå av hopsydda restlappar. På det sättet kan Harry när han blir större, kolla in de roliga figurerna på baksidan och jag blir av med ytterligare fler restbitar. Jag köpte en bit enfärgat blått tyg att blanda in i de mönstrade restbitarna.
The quilt top to Harry, my sisters grandchild is done. I am now constructing the backing, which will be pieced from my stash with kid fabrics. I have bought a solid blue to blend with the printed fabric.

Skeva stjärnor / Wonky stars

Mitt Wicked projekt är nu klart och skall bara fotograferas ute någonstans. Jag har roat mig kungligt medan jag sydde det. Men nu har jag startat på något nytt, innan jag sätter igång med att kvilta ett stort UFO och nästa blog hop hos Madame Samm.

För någon månad sedan fick min syster ett barn barn, en pojke som heter Harry. Har inte så mycket kontakt med dem, eftersom de bor i Stockholm, men nu blir det ett täcke till pojken. Ska sy lite av mönstret Skeva stjärnor som jag tidigare har sytt i vitt och pastellfärger. Kollade i min tyggarderob och har ganska mycket tyger med motiv och mönster lämpliga för barntäcken. Hittade ett cool kattyg och sedan några tyger i klara färger att ha till stjärnspetsarna. Det blir svart bottentyg, men det blir ändå ett väldigt färggrannt täcke. På baksidan kommer jag att skarva ihop flera tyger, så lite mer försvinner från min garderob. Här är i alla fall första blocket och det skall bli sex stycken. Blocket är färdigt 14,5 inch, eftersom jag utgått från kvadrater som är 5 inch.
Ha det så bra och sy lugnt.

My wicked project is done. I have to take a picture out side. In some way it is pity that it is done, as it was so fun to make it. But over to the next new project before fighting with a UFO. 

My sister had a grandson one month ago and I think Harry should have a baby quilt. And why not with cool cats inside the wonky stars and with the star points in bright colors. The back ground fabric will be  solid black, but I think it will be nice as the stars will really twinkle at this back ground color.

The block measure 14,5 inch and I have planned to make six blocks with different colors of the points.

Wicked en tjuvtitt / Wicked a sneak peak

Sedan jag kom hem från Falun i måndags kväll har jag varit drabbad av en besvärlig förkylning som hindrat mig från att göra något vettigt. Men i slutet av veckan började jag rita på mitt Wicked projekt och nu har jag kommit så långt att allt är applicerat och dags för inramning och kviltning.
Det har varit väldigt skoj än så länge, även om vi inte har så mycket Halloween här i Sverige.
Jag har tagit bild på en liten detalj, som inte avslöjar så mycket-
I have had a bad cold since I returned from Falun Monday evening. I had not had energy to make something of my Wicked project until Thursday evening, when I started to sketch and then draw my motif. I must admit that I then was so amused, that I couldn´t stop until the whole drawing was made to an appliqué. And yesterday I made some finishing handwork with some embroidery.
I will today continue working on it, with the finishing borders and quilting.
My cold hasn´t disapperad yet, but I have got lot of energy to go further.
My day at Wicked will be 23rd of October, there is plenty of time to finish, but I hope that I will have Wicked done tomorrow.

Leafs Me Happy Day 8 My Day

First of all I want to thank Madame Samm and Cherry for taken care of  this fantastic blog hop. I am so enthusiastic and  I have been asked to  write  an article of my blog hops adventures  in the magazine, that our Swedish quilt guild publish. I hope there will be more Swedish quilters that will play with us in the future.
The days with Leafs Me Happy have flied away and now it is my day to present what I have been occupied with.
I have been visiting the middle of Sweden this weekend, Dalecarlia, the county of the Dalahorse.
And as the landscape is quite different from my county I want to show you a fall picture, which I took outside the school where the National Quilting Guild had their annual meeting combined with classes, exhibitions and quilt shops.

I have also showed my projects from my blog hops in Show and Tell this weekend , and the ladies were so excited to hear about the blog hops and I hope there will be many Swedish women  who will be sewing in future blog hops.

Fall in Falun, Dalecarlia

In the south of Sweden where I live the pictures from fall are quite different. The pictures are from my parent´s garden taken some years ago.

I have always loved birds, and my favorite specie is this little bird Koltrast, Black Bird.

The male bird sings fantastic for her female in the spring, but during fall and winter you could see the birds seeking for food in close to the houses. They are hopping among the whirling leafs during the fall. Listen to the beautiful song a short while  Blackbird song and then I will continue my story. The male blackbird is black with a yellow beak and he is so handsome, while the female bird is brown with a black beak and I think she is also a beautiful bird. 

These birds are stay birds in south of Sweden and they love apples, that is why we often see them in fall outside our homes, wanting to get bits of the fallen down apples.

My first thought creating a project for this blog hop was a block with blackbirds playing among the whirling leafs. Then I saw one of my many purses, and this one had  Black birds. The pattern is of  my own design and I have drawn the birds and leafs before I made the appliqué. I decided to reuse the pattern for a block, but first I will show a picture of my purse made from fabrics from Japan in different brown shades.

But as you could see on the purse there are only male birds playing in the whirling wind, but this time I decided to make a couple of birds. I didn´t have any fabric with whirling leafs and I was lucky to find a piece to suit my project for the outer border .

I have made four blocks with the birds playing among the leafs and decided to make a table cloth of the blocks. The sashings are simple four patches.

The table cloth measures 36 inches in square and each block is 12.5 inch. I think this will be one of my favorites for the fall. I have named the block Whirling Leafs with Black Birds.
