Stamps from Sweden and a give away

Here is my greeting from Sweden. Nowadays there could be many different images on the stamps.
In my child hood  the Swedish stamps only had pictures of our king Gustav VI Adolf.

This image shows a stamp from 1973 the same year as he died 91 years old and at this time we also had the currency SEK Swedish Crowns on the stamps.

This is our king Carl XVI Gustaf on a stamp from  2010 his age is then 64.

As you could see there is no currency on the stamp, brev means mail and Sverige means Sweden.

Since several ages ago we have different images on our stamps not only royalties. And I love beautiful and fun stamps.

Here are some stamps  that I think are  fun to show you before I will come to my own designed stamp

Old cars from my childhood

A Swedish cinnamon roll
In Sweden we have a special day in October that we call The day of the cinnamon roll. This stamp is from 2010 and don´t you think it is so  fun.

And what is more Swedish than our Swedish flag?

I have of course chosen the most Swedish attributes.

The  Swedish flag and the handcrafted Dalecarlian horses that most tourists buy as memories from Sweden.
My stamp it is so Swedish, don´t you think so?   I have even stamped it with my day.

My Swedish stamp

It is even stamped

When you now  have seen my stamp and greetings from Sweden

rush over to find out the other stamps for the day

Oh, the give away. I have quite forgotten it. LOL

I found a lovely table runner in a shop yesterday with Dalecarlian horses stamped it all over. It measures 42x14 inches and it  is a Swedish design  made of cotton. I will post it everywhere and you only have to leave me a comment to get a chance to have  it.

But as Google Reader is shutting down I will give you  a second chance if you follow me on Bloglovin or by email. Please leave me a second comment about that. The buttons for Bloglovin and email  are on the right side bar.

Thank you lovely Madame Samm for organizing this fun blog hop and most of all the wonderful cheer leader Thearica at Pig Tales and Quilts.

I hope that you all will have a great day hopping around.

Greetings from Sweden

My Tammy

Oh so many lovely Tammy that I have seen during this blog hop. And yes Tammy is a cute, beautiful girl that even is hungry, as she can swallow so many things, that a crafty lady must have with near to her.

Thank you lovely Samm for organizing this blog hop and as all the hops that I have participated in, it is so fun.

The hardest part to make Tammy, is to choose the fabric, as the instructions that the lovely Madame Samm has sent to us is so excellent. This time I was a good girl that could  shop among my stash.
As I love birds, this funny fabric is a very good choice and could cheery up even during the grey days.

Here is my Tammy packed with the things that  I am working with for the moment.

I am waiting for my buddy. Hurry up and make him

My sweet small rabbit Maggie   is waiting for her brother to become alive. The material  for her brother is swallowed by Tammy. I have bought the pattern for Maggie and her brother here

and she is sewn by hand with button hole stitches. She is naked and is also waiting for her clothes, but to much for me to do, so she will wait a little more. I´m so sorry for that.

One side of Tammy

The other side of Tammy
I am always looking for one of my measuring tapes, I have several. This is secured in Tammy.

Tammy´s kid sister
I thought that I had to make a small purse for my thimble, as like  the measuring tape I am always hunting for my thimble and now it will have a secure place to hide in.

Extra to Tammy

I thought I needed a needle case too, and then Tammy is the boss over some extra companions.

Here is the contents of Tammy, when I have taken out all the things she had swallowed this time.
And Maggie is still waiting for her rabbit brother.

This was all for for me and my Tammy . But there will surely  be more Tammy in my place and maybe as presents for my friends  as she was so fun to make. You know for me Tammy is female.

Now hurry up to meet all the other ladies that like me love  Tammy.

Have a great day hopping  around and I hope to  see you soon in the next blog hop

Say it with Flowers My day and a Give away

First of all I have to send a great thank you  and several  big cyber hugs  to lovely madame Samm, the manager of one more blog hop and to Carol on Just let me quilt.

When I saw the theme, I had in my mind to make something with prints of  Swedish Summer flowers.
And I have in my stash some vintage fabrics from a Swedish fabric company, that doesn´t exist any more, some  tenderly preserved fabric from Borås Textil, that I have bought at least ten years ago, when the company was  closed but the prints was issued more than twenty years ago.

The fabric that I have used have images of these flowers and they feel so much Summer for me. Here are some pictures of the flowers.

Prästkrage Daisy a wild flower in Sweden
Gullviva Primrose
Förgätmigej For get me not

Smörblomma Buttercup

I started to fussy cut the flowers to make the center in wonky stars. For the points I have bought some gingham fabric that I thought would suit the mild color. I have an idea thinking of the stars giving a very light impression floating in the background fabric.
But I didn´t realize that this composition gave me a big area of negative space that I have to work with in my quilting.
I took a tour down town to a park with my bike today to take some pictures
from the table cloth that was finished yesterday evening

For the binding I have chosen the fabric with wild strawberries with both berries and flowers.

Now to the give away!! I have another vintage fabric with tussilago, coltsfeet and I will make a small string purse with some gingham as lining. In my childhood I used to pick some tussilago flowers to mom, as they were the messenger of Spring.

This purse will go to one of them who comment my posting today. I will announce the winner after this blog hop is finished and post a picture on my blog.

Now when you have seen my flowers hop over to the other flower girls for today

It´s for the birds My day

Finally Birds for me!!

I love birds, below are my pet birds Knut and Sixten

The lovely free birds outside are  now busy nesting during the long days here in Scandinavia.
My favorite bird except Knut and Sixten are  the lovely blackbird, which sings so beautifully.

Listen to his sing here

I have during the years made many things with appliquéd blackbirds and other birds too  on quilts and I therefore have to come up with something else with birds on.

Why don´t carry the birds with me ? And have them on something recycled and inspired from traditional embroidery design and folk art  from the southern part of Sweden.

I started sketching on one bird at first and thinking of what material to use on my appliqué and my embroidery.

Why don´t make another purse , as I am a baglady and I could always use a new purse.
And the recycled fabric came from an old pair of jeans.

I have made two purses before from Michelles pattern small messenger bag and I think that this purse is very practical and has a good size.

To make this purse I needed one pair of jeans, some wool and cotton scraps and some yardages for lining, the wonderful  Precencia Finca yarn bought from Jane.
It is better to use jeans that have no stretch, why I prefer the men jeans, but you could use jeans with stretch if you put   interface on the back of the fabric.
I have sewn the appliqué with button hole stitches on my sewing machine and the embroideries and the embellishment are made by hand stitching.
The binding in purple is one of my favorite Kaffe fabrics and I think that I got the traditional look on my birds. Isn´t he a cool bird  and he  could easily brighten up a cloudly day, don´t you think?.
Front very close

On the cliffs in Limhamn
On the back of the purse I have first taken off the pocket, made the appliqué and the embroideries
added some embellishments and then lined the pocket before sewing it on the jeans fabric again.
This piece was taken from the back part  of the pair of jeans. I had a smile on my face making this small funny bird. Maybe he is looking for a worm or something else to eat. As I have used this piece with the original pocket on the outside pocket of the purse I have now two practical pockets on the back of the purse.
Very close picture of the back
A lovely scrap from my Kaffe Fasset´s stash on the inside of the front flap

And here are some beautiful pictures of the bag on the cliffs in Limhamn with glimpses
of the the channel  Öresund the sea  between Sweden and Denmark.

I hope that you love my purse as much as I do. I had the purse on Show and Tell last Saturday at my guild meeting and the ladies were very excited over the purse. And if you want to make a purse of your own, get some of your men´s old jeans and a pattern from Michelle and start the fun.
Thanks to the charming ladies Madame Samm and Mary for coming up with this wonderful blog hop.

I hope that I have put some smiles on your faces ! Continue having fun and pop over to the other participating creative and inspiring ladies with their birds

Soon It´s for the birds

Fåglarna är rusiga av vår känslor och inspirerande av det kommer det en blog hop igen på Sew We Quilt. Denna blog hop startar på tisdag och min dag är den 10 maj. Follow the fun and be surprised over all the creativity from the participating ladies.
